About the Author

Hello!

This is the part where I tell you a little about myself and my background.

I'm a lifelong writer with a love of vintage culture, classic movies, cooking interesting things, baking pies, drinking tea, ancient Mediterreanean & Middle Eastern history, and German shorthaired pointers .

Growing up in the Midwest I spent much of my childhood outdoors in the woods surrounding my home, reading books about faraway lands, and visiting my maternal grandparents (who live over the hills, but not far away).

Ta da!  Dramatic from the get go.  (With my mom, Christmas of 1983.)
Although I've been in a love/hate relationship with Tucson for the past three years, my heart still belongs to Chicago which is where I have spent most of my adult life.  I've also lived in southern Alabama, Madison (Wisconsin), and Los Angeles for relatively short periods of time.  Los Angeles was my least favourite, overall.  Sorry, LA... it just wasn't meant to be.

I have a chronic disease.  About 15 years ago I was diagnosed with rapid cycling Bipolar Disorder.  For most of my twenties I ignored the fact that I had a serious disease and did not seek any type of treatment (other than self medicating, which I really do not recommend).  Now that I am older and wiser I do as much as I can to manage my illness in a healthy manner and finally feel comfortable enough to write about it publicly.  I do take daily medication in addition to meditating, eating a healthy and natural diet, limiting caffeine and alcohol, exercising regularly, and attempting to get enough sleep.  The hilarity and affection that my dogs provide has had an immeasurably positive impact on how I live my life in addition to giving me the motivation to better care for myself so that I can better care for them.

I hope you enjoy my blog as it grows and evolves!
